Your Pet's Surgery at Apple Valley Animal HospitalLaser Surgery

Surgical lasers offers important benefits for your pet. In laser surgery, a highly focused laser beam efficiently vaporizes the affected living tissue and it simultaneously seals capillaries, small blood vessels, lymphatics and nerve endings. With laser surgery, your pet will experience:

  • Less Bleeding: As it makes an incision, the laser seals small blood vessels. The result is a significant reduction in bleeding which enables different surgical procedures to be utilized for optimal results for your pet.

  • Less Pain: The CO2 laser beam seals nerve endings and lymphatics, which results in less edema and pain for your pet. Less pain also means less recovery time for your pet's post-operative healing.

  • Reduced Risk of Infection: One of the most unique features of the CO2 laser beam is that it efficiently kills bacteria in its path, producing a sterilizing effect.

  • Quicker Recovery and Healing Time: Reduced risk of infection, less bleeding and pain and less swelling allow your pet to make a quick recovery after surgery.

Customized Anesthesia Protocol

For some procedures, your pet will require general anesthesia so that he or she will be unconscious and not feel pain. Many pet owners worry about general anesthesia. We can assure you that modern anesthesia is quite safe. To further lower any risk, we perform a physical examination and recommend blood work to catch any underlying health issues. We then create a anesthetic protocol tailored specifically for your pet. During anesthesia, your pet is cared for by a well-trained and experienced veterinary technician using our monitoring system which tracks blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and oxygen level.

Your Pet's Surgery at Apple Valley Animal HospitalComprehensive Pain Management

Your pet feels pain and discomfort, just like we do. Recognizing and alleviating pain in your pet is the essence of good patient care. Apple Valley Animal Hospital uses advanced pain management protocols to keep your pet comfortable and pain free before, during and after surgery. Local anesthesia is often used in combination with systemic medication to make sure your pet is as comfortable as can be.

Pain management is also a service we provide for pets who have experienced a trauma or have dental, abdominal, arthritic or other pain. If needed, we will also provide pain medications for your pet if they are suffering near the end of their life.

Responsive Postoperative Care

Following surgery, all patients are kept warm and comfortable and are closely monitored to assure a full recovery. The amount of time your pet will need to be monitored after surgery varies. In some cases, pets will need to be monitored overnight; in others, they can be sent home the same day.

As your pet is being discharged from the hospital, we will provide you with detailed information on how to properly care for them at home after surgery. We are also happy to answer any questions or concerns that may arise once you get your pet home.
